What is a Left Foot Accelerator?

Left Foot accelerators, sometimes known as a Twin Flip left foot accelerator, are designed to help drivers who are unable to operate the accelerator pedal with their right foot.

Fitting a Left foot accelerator allows the driver to use the accelerator pedal with their left foot with it positioned on the left of the brake pedal.

How does a Left Foot Accelerator work?

The most common left foot accelerator that we fit at Martin Healey Vehicle Adaptations is the Twin Folding pedal by Jeff Gosling, Brig-Ayd and Cowal. The Twin Folding pedal allows the driver to accelerate with their left or their right foot, allowing the pedal to be folded out of the way if it is not required by the driver. To fold the pedal away you simply pull the required pedal down and the opposite pedal will fold up out of the way.

The Left Foot Accelerator fully replicates the function of the accelerator pedal with no loss of ‘kick down’. The pedal comes with a built in safety function allowing only one accelerator pedal to function at one time.

We also fit Electronic Left Foot Accelerators for vehicles that are fitted with organ pedals. This adaptation replicates the right hand accelerator pedal with an additional pedal that is fitted to the left side of the brake pedal. The adaptation is fitted with a safety function that allows only one accelerator to be used at one time.
